Police arrested a hotel staff for allegedly raping a minor girl in St Martin’s Island of Cox’s Bazar on Friday.

The arrestee was identified as Imaran Hossain, 50, a resident of Lahar Kandhi village of Laxmipur district.

Quoting locals, police said that Imran took the 11-year-old girl to a hotel room alluring to give chocolate and violated her around 8:00pm.

The girl went to a local market to purchase betel-leaf. As she did not return home, family members started searching for her, according to victim’s uncle.

At one stage, they with the help of locals rescued the girls from the hotel room and informed police.

Confirming the incident, sub-inspector (SI) Md Azmir Elahi, in-charge of St Martin’s Island Police outpost, said that a case has been filed against Imran.

The accused, however, confessed to his involvement in the rape, the SI added.
